Driving sustainable mining innovation: DINAMINE presented at NIC
The Department of Catalysis and Chemical Reaction Engineering at the National Institute of Chemistry, led by Prof. Dr. Blaž Likozar and now comprising nearly 100 employees, regularly organises weekly meetings to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among colleagues. During one of these internal sessions, Nina Lokar presented several ongoing research and innovation activities.
Among the highlighted initiatives was the DINAMINE project, focused on advancing digitalised and sustainable mining practices across Europe. Nina introduced key DINAMINE activities, including:
• Carbon footprint monitoring in mining operations
• Techno-economic assessment of transportation alternatives and related safety aspects
• The role of hydrogen in mining decarbonisation
• Mineralogical characterisation of ore tailings and waste rock
In addition to DINAMINE, the presentation also covered other projects related to circular economy, emissions reduction, and advanced analytical technologies, including the ReMag project, CRP23, and an ARIS proposal on microfluidics for microbiome analysis.
