New publication: Building the digital and sustainable mine of the future
The DINAMINE project may have come to an end, but its results continue to demonstrate how digital innovation can support a smarter, safer and more sustainable mining sector.
We’re pleased to share the publication of “Building the Digital and Sustainable Mine of the Future”, featured in Research & Development | n°2 | 2026. The article looks back at the project’s journey and presents the technologies and innovations developed over 42 months of collaboration to advance the digital transformation of mining in Europe.
Co-authored by Dr. Sean Salazar (Norwegian Geotechnical Institute), Dr. Mahdi Shabanimashcool (Norwegian Geotechnical Institute), Aymen Sarjam and Anastasios Tsakas (PNO Innovation), the article highlights DINAMINE’s integrated digital management framework, automated drilling technologies, real-time environmental monitoring solutions, and advanced sensing systems, all successfully demonstrated at the project’s pilot sites in Norway and Portugal.
As Europe works towards a more resilient and sustainable supply of critical raw materials, the article offers valuable insights into how collaborative research and innovation can accelerate the digitalisation of the mining sector.
